The Project

One of the major priorities of this project and possibly top of the Headley Court wish list is the proposed building of a new Rehabilitation Complex, consisting of treatment rooms, a new gymnasium and the absolutely necessary construction of a 25 metre swimming pool, which would provide a vitally necessary asset to the present facilities available at Headley Court.

The principal of the Rehabilitation Project has received sympathetic consideration with regard to regulations and conservation. Once the detailed requirements and proposed specification have been agreed and subject to planning consent being granted, the current intention is to build the new complex within the area of the  Battle of Britain and Falklands Gymnasiums. The Falklands Gymnasium is a temporary fabric building which was erected in 1996 and is currently still used on a daily basis. However, due to its construction it is freezing cold in the winter and very hot in the summer.

The swimming facilities are at present provided by transferring patients to the Leatherhead Leisure Centre where a single lane is roped off in the public pool for four hours a week, providing one hour per day, Monday to Thursday.

Wounded Soldiers shouted at Leatherhead pool reported the Leatherhead Advertiser on 21st November.

Bryn Parry Trustee of the charity Help for Heroes said,
If ever anyone needed convincing that Help for Heroes is right to try to provide a swimming pool at Headley Court, they only need to read this. I consider that it is an urgent need to provide our wounded men and women with their own pool within Headley Court and ask everyone who cares to donate as much as they can to get this done.
